Sir Ian Clunies-Ross was one of Australia's most distinguished scientists, founder of CSIRO and one of Australia's pioneering Asianists. He first visited Asia in 1929 when he went to Tokyo to conduct research at the Institute of Infectious Diseases. En route his Ship stopped at the Philippines and Hong Kong.
